I have written about this blog before, but this morning in my google reader, I saw this sandwich. And I started thinking about how peanut butter + honey + banana sandwiches remind me of my dad. (I have a lot of people that I associate with foods. Malt-o-Meal with my mom, pancakes with my grandma, chicken shawarma with Whitney, chocolate chip cookies with Pagie). The way I remember eating peanut butter sandwiches with my dad, we had these things all the time, and he never made a peanut butter sandwich with anything else. The thing is, I'm pretty sure that isn't true! He must have made peanut butter sandwiches with something other than creamed honey, and it's not like we always had bananas around. But sometimes we remember the past differently than it actually was. We glamorize mundane details. We change the order of chronological details. We conveniently forget details. But in this case, I don't think it actually matters how I remember the peanut butter sandwiches of my childhood. What ends up being important are the feelings have every time I'm slicing bananas onto the peanut butter side of my sandwich: "I love this sandwich... I love my dad."

non-edgy details
um. Earlier this week Craig told me my blog wasn't edgy. And I seriously had a bit of an identity crisis. So let me just say, "I am a poser. I know in real life I like to convince you I'm dark and twisty, but apparently it's all a lie." Because I've been waiting for something edgy to blog about for days, and nothing came up. I wanted to say stuff like this:- Happy first day of Spring!
- Look at this hilarious picture.
- This is my new favorite blog because everyday they post two sandwiches and I pretend to pick which one I want for lunch.
- Next week, two of Cary's friends are staying with Hilary and me, and we are SO excited. So excited, in fact, that we vacuumed. And we may or may not empty the garbage for the first time this semester. Second time ever.
- Last weekend we took care of #4. And actually, Craig (the boyfriend's friend) got to it like an hour before Cary (the boyfriend) did. It was a spin the bottle scenario. I guess that's pretty edgy...
- I cannot stop listening to RENT.
- A week ago, Whit and I did a photo shoot in Salt Lake. I felt like a freaking rockstar. Hopefully more on that later.
p.s. photo from here.

colorful details
So the English major has a lot of books. And the books that aren't perpetually in my backpack need a home. I keep almost all of them in Idaho, but in Utah, I still have:

The red section is my favorite.

Dreaming in Cuban by Cristina Garcia - for my Latino Literature class
John Adams by David McCullough - for Student Council
Miracles by C.S. Lewis - from Santa
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom - from Jamine
Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros - also for my Latino Literature class
I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg - from Hilary
- books I need for classes that semester
- books (usually gifts) that are waiting to be read, or have already been read in "spare time" throughout the semester
- books part of my "permanent" collection

future details
As I prepare for the LSAT, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want to be when I grow up. Lots of girls have a one word answer that can be quickly said and readily understood: doctor, teacher, mother, attorney, etc. I kind of have to explain what I want to be when I grow up. I want to be a "woman of leisure."
- I want to bake stuff all the time. There will, of course, be other cooking too, but I want to have cakes and pies and cookies surrounding everything I do.
- I want to decorate my house. This will undoubtedly require hiring/becoming friends with an interior designer. We could go to lunch and discuss how beautiful my crown moldings are.
- I want to throw fabulous parties. Big ones, little ones, fancy ones, simple ones... I think in this category I will also include planning vacations with my family. I just love planning events.
- I want to take photography, cooking, horticulture, design, and other fun classes. I think my desire to do these things comes from how much I love going to school. I think if I was allowed to go to school forever I would get a BA in every humanities subject that is offered. And I think I'm good at science stuff too. One time I got 116% on a Physics 300-something test.
- I want to be able to drop whatever I'm doing to run to the library and check out that photography book my friend emailed me. Also in this category is the ability to drop whatever I'm doing and shop for clothes that highlight my attractive figures in "an obvious yet classy way."
- I want to have an immaculately clean home. This is mostly so that my kids, their friends, and my family and friends, can always drop by and feel welcome, safe, happy, and clean. And then they can have a piece of cake.
A couple afterthoughts for those reading this and judging me: A) I realize this will probably never happen B) It's not that I don't want to work - I plan on working. I actually think it would be awesome if I could work in the mornings and then have the whole afternoon to do whatever I want. Of course, in the dream, my morning job would be incredibly lucrative (I'm thinking insider trading...) so I can afford to do all that other stuff. C) I realize this makes me sound incredibly selfish. So I should mention my life would actually be meaningless if I didn't feel like I was helping/serving other people. D) if you're still judging, judge all you want, this is my dream and I'll dream what I want.

royal details
This was a street poster in London during World War II. The whole site is great. But, I love this poster for three reasons 1. What a great message 2. It's British 3. It's very pretty. This version comes from England, but I found some others that can be shipped from California.

details on my drawers
I've always wanted to have a coffee table in my living room where I could keep the books that A) make excellent conversation and B) tell a little bit about what's going on in my life. Since I don't have a coffee table, I thought that this dream would have to wait. But in lieu of the ideal, I have a lovely dresser from Ikea. I've decided this will be where I live my coffee table dream. On the side of my blog, I'm going to update whatever I keep there. In my mind, I've always imagined photography books, histories, magazines, flowers, comic books, poetry anthologies, and so on. I'm excited to start this new tradition. This coffee table is from Pottery Barn.

domestic details
I do love college, and I'm in no real hurry to grow up. But every once and a while, I look forward to living somewhere other than this basement apartment. I don't have a lot of expectations of this future home, but when I do think of it, it's a place where, if there are dishes in the sink that I need to clean up, I know they are mine. A place where I can put anything I want in the freezer. A place where there is a coffee table with cool books, or flowers, or magazines. A place where I could put all the stuff I find online. For some reason, this weekend I've found a bunch of stuff that would be perfect for that future place. Oh, also. It would be even more perfect if you couldn't tell that they cost about as much as rent. The mirrors are from Domestic, where Domestic = France. And the window detailing is from Emma Jeffs, where Everything Wonderful = England.
